1. Introduction

  • The American Constitution was the first to begin with a Preamble.
  • The Preamble:
    • Contains the summary or essence of the Constitution.
    • Contains ideals and aspirations upon which the Indian state is founded.
  • On December 13, 1946, Jawaharlal Nehru moved the 'Objective Resolution' in the Constituent Assembly.
  • It also acted as the guiding principle for the members of the Constituent Assembly in framing the Constitution.
  • It was adopted as the Preamble to the Indian Constitution on January 22, 1947.

2. Nature of the Indian State

Term Meaning
